How do I fix an invalid or undeliverable address?
Flagged pieces wait for you on the Pieces step. Send, suppress or review each one.
Cxnch corrects most address problems for you, such as a wrong ZIP code or a missing suite number. When it can't be confident an address is right, it flags the piece as an exception instead of guessing. Nothing flagged mails until you decide what to do with it.
Where you'll see flagged pieces
On the Pieces step of the Send Mail wizard, flagged pieces are marked "exception needs your review." You can't reach the Review step until each one is resolved.
Your three options
|
Option |
What happens |
Use it when |
|---|---|---|
|
Send as addressed |
The piece mails to the address as written |
You've confirmed the address is right, such as a new building USPS doesn't list yet |
|
Suppress |
The piece is removed and doesn't mail or use a credit |
The recipient has moved with no forwarding address, or the address can't be fixed |
|
Review |
Opens the piece so you can see the address and the reason it was flagged |
You're not sure yet |
Common reasons an address is flagged
- Not a deliverable address. USPS doesn't recognize it as a real delivery point.
- Incomplete. A missing apartment, suite or unit number at a multi-unit building.
- Moved. The recipient filed a change of address with USPS.
- Can't be matched. A typo or formatting problem too large to correct automatically.
Fix it at the source. A correction in Cxnch applies to that job only. Update the address in your own system too, so the same error doesn't come back next month. To check one address before you send, use the single-address lookup in the portal.
