# What are the USPS address data quality standards?

## The rules USPS sets for commercial mail, and how Cxnch meets them on every job.

To mail at commercial and presort prices, USPS requires that your addresses meet its address quality standards. Cxnch applies these checks to every job automatically, so you don't need to run anything yourself.

**The standards, and how Cxnch meets them**

| USPS standard | What USPS requires | How Cxnch handles it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Move Update | An approved method, such as NCOALink, used within 95 days of mailing for commercial First-Class Mail and USPS Marketing Mail | Every job is checked against USPS change-of-address data (up to 48 months) at the time you send |
| Address accuracy (CASS) | Addresses checked against the USPS database with CASS-certified software; automation prices need complete addresses verified within 95 days of mailing | Every address is standardized and corrected with CASS processing before printing |
| Deliverability (DPV) | The address must be a real USPS delivery point | Every address is confirmed with Delivery Point Validation. Failures are flagged for you to review |
| Standard format | USPS-preferred formatting and abbreviations (Publication 28), with ZIP+4 | Addresses are reformatted, and ZIP+4 and suite details are added when missing |

**Why it matters**

- **Lower postage.** Presort discounts depend on clean, standardized addresses across the whole mailing.
- **Fewer returns.** These checks eliminate about 99% of address-related returned mail.
- **Provable compliance.** A required notice sent to a stale address may not count as delivered. Checking before you mail protects you.

**What you can do:** keep your source list current, include apartment and suite numbers, and put each address part in its own column when you upload a CSV (name, street, unit, city, state, ZIP).
